Sound is her first language.

Mara Voss began writing music at seventeen in a converted Prenzlauer Berg warehouse, trading refrigeration hum for synthesizer drones. Her early releases on Stille Zone — a Berlin independent label she co-founded in 2019 — defined a sonic vocabulary that critics would later call "atmospheric post-industrial."

Her 2022 debut album Fade crossed 50 million streams without a label deal, driven entirely by word of mouth and two critical features in Pitchfork and The Wire. That same year, she toured twelve countries across three continents, performing modular synthesizer configurations that changed night to night.

Her live shows are known for their restraint — long silences between passages, deliberate speaker feedback, a darkness in the room that makes every surface feel close. Her third album Veil (2024) featured a collaboration with producer Fenriz (Darkthrone), followed by a four-month European tour that sold out in under an hour.

She is currently composing her fourth studio album, working between Berlin and a residency in Reykjavik, with an expected release in 2026.

In Their Words

Pitchfork

Fade is a debut of startling maturity — Voss builds environments from silence as much as sound, and the result feels genuinely dangerous in a way that very little electronic music does anymore.

J. Decker Nov 2022
The Wire

A Berlin producer who treats the modular synthesizer not as a machine but as an instrument of emotional precision. Veil is the work of someone who understands that restraint is its own form of power.

A. Sorensen Mar 2024
Resident Advisor

Her live sets are a study in tension and release — forty minutes of barely controlled feedback before a single kick drum arrives, and when it does, you feel it in your sternum for days.

M. Volkov Aug 2024
Groove

Pulse confirms what Fade suggested: Mara Voss is working in a different register than almost everyone else in the scene. She is making music for empty rooms and full hearts simultaneously.
